I cant remember the name of a film...?

I saw a film a good few years ago, might of been out in the 80's and it was about a homeless man who was hitchhiking and got picked up and taken to a laboratory. When he was there he pulled back a cover and found a half man half animal in a bed. Was a really good film, if anyone can help?
