What is the difference beween naturalistic obervation and laboratory observation?

It really depends on what you are observing. Animals in captivity tend to behave differently than they do in the wild. Consider observing a polar bear at a zoo, as opposed to a observing a polar bear in the arctic. The bear in the arctic has vast land and vast ocean and a variety of food sources to hunt. A bear in captivity has just about nowhere to go and nothing to hunt, so it's behavior will be different.
